Depression

Depression is a common mental health disorder that affects many people worldwide.  Depression can be defined as a condition where a person withdraws, experiences persistent low mood for a prolonged time and/or has a loss of interest in activities, causing substantial impairment in daily life.

Self-help tips to combat depression:

  1. Reach out and connect with others. Those with depression can easily become isolated and lonely.  Try staying in contact with a friend or family member.
  2. Exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet.
  3. Find a hobby or something of interest, that you enjoy.
  4. Aim for a good sleep routine, try not to oversleep.
  5. Practice relaxation or mindfulness meditation techniques.

  7. Create a manageable routine that can help you to keep your daily pace going.
  8. Spend time in nature. This might be sitting in the sun, doing some gardening, or going for a walk.
  9. If you don’t already have a pet, consider getting one, they do wonders for mental health.
  10. Seek professional help if your depression becomes worse. A professional counsellor can assist you in creating a treatment plan towards recovery.
